Updated timelines for combustible and vaping regulations

The following edited summary was prepared by Imperial Tobacco.

Please see attached 2 recently updated times lines for both Tobacco and Vaping. Very little in detail however I’ve attempted to summarise key dates.

Smokefree timeline:

For outlets wishing to apply for combustible tobacco license (max. 600) applications are open 21st September, all applications must have been received prior to 12 November 2023.

As of today, there is still no finalised process for application published by the Ministry of Health.

Successful applicants will be notified “late March 2024”.

Vaping Regulations timeline:

Retailers of notifiable products can notify that they sell notifiable products at retail from 21st September 2023. Notifications must have been submitted by 1st October 2023.

Ministry of Health has not released the notification process for General vape retailers yet. Note there is only a 10-day window to submit this notification.

From 21st December 2023 Retailers of notifiable products must only sell single-use vaping products that meet Product Safety Requirements, including nicotine limits (2.0%,) removable batteries, child safety mechanisms, labelling requirements.

This applies to retailers selling vape product.

NZACS will update members as soon as MOH application and registration processes are released by Government.
